Default Lucky Oliver

http://www.luckyoliver.com/

This site is just getting started as of mid-April, 06. It promises to sell vectors and "images" as well as photos. I could only upload raster images for my 3 trial images. So I uploaded 3 3D renders instead of vectors, my stock in trade.

From the site:
"LuckyOliver lets people buy photos with tokens instead of hard currency. Right now, 1 US dollar is roughly equivalent to 1 token (with bulk discounts available). As a contributing Oliver, here's what you need to know about tokens and cash:
"If you upload an image, you automatically receive 1 token that you can then use to download other images.
"If one of your images is downloaded by another user, you'll receive a cash payout based on the rules below.
"We reward loyalty. If you choose to have LuckyOliver exclusively represent one of your images, your payout is much higher. If you're a popular photographer on the web site, you have the ability to make a 50% royalty on each photo. Find out more on royalties.
"Buy-It-Out Pricing:
LuckyOliver also lets you set a buy-it-out price that lets a buyer purchase your image and remove it from the web site, making it unavailable to future buyers."

I wonder if you can "sell" your credits for uploading back to them if you don't buy any pictures ?

Well I joined them last June. I had to pass an "exam" (reaonably enough), then I was approved. I found out you had to upload your photos and then cut&paste your keywords one by one not to mention description and title. I sent them an email about it, and then they told me that problem was solved and you could FT-upload, and the IPTC-extraction was ready. Great!

Well... it didn't work 3 weeks ago. Their server was misconfigured.

Last week I tried to upload my last 2 batches and yes! FTP worked. They read the title and the description from IPTC, but the keywords not yet. They mailed me back it was still a bug, 6 weeks after announcing the IPTC feature. Que? Amateurs?

I still want to stay friendly for a while. I just wait another month untill give it another try. But deep in my heart, I just feel they will go down the tubes like http://www.microstockphoto.com. Right now I just stick to Dreamstime, Shutterstock, iStock and Bigstock.

What we have here is the Matthew-effect. The rich get richer, and the poor guys will never make it any more. How sad. I will cry all my way to the bank.

In case somebody wants to join here my referral link:luckyoliver , up to now no real sales but you get one token for each approved image which you can use to download pics from other users, better then nothing. The site is new, so I don't expect too many sales There referral programm pays you $1 for each referred photographer who got minimum 3 pics approved and $5 for each referred buyer who purchased a token package...

I had a look at their top 50 photos on this link and they seem to have between 0 and 2 downloads www.luckyoliver.com/sitemap

Is this for real? If so, there doesn't seem to be much point in uploading when there are hardly any sales.

Even better, I found at least 2 pics amongst them with no downloads at all... Simply hilarious! SY

They haven't done much(any) marketing yet. Just got the site fairly stable. I'm uploading there because it is takes no time. If your shots are keyworded, FTP a batch, hit submit and you're done.

Having said that, if they don't get the marketing side in gear soon, it won't be worth even the minimal trouble required to upload.

Nah, I uploaded a test picture today by FTP, and they still don't accept my IPTC keywords. It's not an issue of my tagging, it works well at all main sites. I just feel I should give up on them. I don't want to spend my time to C&P all my keywords there. I rather prefer to put my time in the outrageous iStock category system, at least iStock makes $$$. I'm not Mother Theresa.
