SnapVillage (Corbis) follows Featurepics model

A post on StockPhotoTalk | Special Interest Blog today (StockPhotoTalk | Special Interest Blog: SnapVillage microstock by Corbis, and more on Cannibalization) reveals that Corbis' microstock venture will adopt Stock Photography by FeaturePics 's model: photographers can set their own prices. They will also adopt the subscription model but the photographer is free to join that one or not.

A bet to avoid cannibalizing the higher-priced stock _and_ to emulate SS's success. Betting on two horses? Interesting blog item.

I sort of like the name. At least it's not another site with the word "stock" in the name.

No, but the title immediately made me think of snapshots.

$1-$50...

I think that we are all tired from submitting on hundreds stock agencies so this one will probably be forgotten

I like the tone of their writeup and the feel of their website. They have a feel of competence (as opposed to, say, the rampant incompetence of Fotolia). I just signed up...

Oh boy I just tried and:

1) no FTP
2) no metadata extract from the jpg file (have to re-type all keyword, descriptions, etc)
3) only 5 pictures at a time.

Forget it

Until they fix that it's not worth the time.

I'm going to wait out the beta phase for a little while, so I haven't set any prices yet. When I do, more than likely it will depend on the image. My main focus right now is working towards getting accepted at a few traditional agencies and start moving away from some of the micros.
