Default 1 Week with iStock Video

Well, I have around 25 clips online and have had 7 sales. I think it is a good start. I plan on putting up some more animation clips as this seems to be selling the best right now. So the first week made me $20.00 not to bad considering I did not put in to much effort. If you want to give it a try go ahead and sign up through me if you please

Thanks, I hope this part of stock really takes off. It is sometimes easier to create video content then it is to get great pictures! The pay out is much better so I will keep my fingers crossed

Default IStock Footage

JJ... do you have your footage on SS? Seems like the payout at iStock isn't worth all the major work it takes to get a footage clip ready to sell. Just curious.

I had my footage at SS for a while and sold nothing. I posted about 12 clips to start with on IS and did pretty good. I get at least 1 sell a day and it is getting better all the time. I went exclusive with IS so I could get better pay outs on my clips as well as more exposure with them. Seems to work for me

Hmmm... that might be a thought... I've only had 2 sales on SS (with 38 clips up) since they started. But again that might have everything to do with WHAT the clips are, not what site I'm on...

Thanks!

What kind of video cameras are you guys using? Or are you just using the video features on your regular digital cameras?

I use a Canon XL2 3CCD camera and the Adobe Professional Video Suite for editing. I think some people who submit to Shutterstock are using smaller cameras, but definitely video cameras that record to the MiniDV tape or a chip. The consensus is NOT to use your regular digital camera's video capabilities for several reasons... SS has a topic in the forum about it where Moishe said, a still camera is for stills, a video camera is for video, and not to confuse them.

The learning curve is kinda steep -- you have to learn your camera, you have to learn stuff you never even consider with still (panning, zooming, shot angles) -- and you have to learn the video editing software which is nothing like you used with Illustrator and Photoshop... except, well, After Effects is like "photoshop on steroids" as Lynda.com says it... so getting into video shouldn't be taken lightly, since its a helluva investment of money and time!

Good luck, and if you're going to get into it, don't blaze a trail, ask for quick shortcuts to success!

Very well said, when I started with Final Cut a few years ago I was discouraged but I got some good books and spent time on good forums and finally got a handle on it. There is still so much to learn and I am by no means a master of it but if I think it up in my mind I can usually find a way to do it now. Don't get discouraged and give it a shot its a lot of fun!!
