Yes, I've read on ongoing HD problems at IS. I only upload 720x486 video clips to them with no problems.

In regards to uploading animations, I think they want a jpeg of the animation in various stages of development/rendering. In other words, one long jpeg with a sequence of frames in it. I know, SS makes it so much easier! That's why I've stayed away from uploading any CGI work at IS. There is a FAQ on there in regards to the details of what they want.

I wonder why uploading is so much more complicated at iStock? I re-rendered some of my 3d stuff out at 720x486 and it uploaded just fine. I didnt upload a jpeg series of my models being made, but I did write a note explaining how I made them. Im just going to wait and see if they took the few I did before uploading any new stuff. Unfortunately it will probably be a month before I find out if they took the last clips I uploaded.

Ive looked around on the iStock forums and it looks like a mess. Everyone is having upload issues.

Revostock.com takes video and audio clips. There are probably others but I haven't found them yet.

One thing I read on the IS forums is they want orginal CGI and not animations that are made using presets.

Yeah, I forgot about them wanting a note on how you made it. I think they wanted that on a jpeg as well?

Yes, I'm avoiding HD on there for now.

I've been with Shutterstock since June 2006. I'm making reasonable money on it: $400-900/month. That said, I have a significant gallery, 4000+ clips. As well Shutterstock Footage is still effectively in 'beta' mode. I expect in the near future that the dam will burst. I've looked at many other microstock footage sites, none appealed to me. Why? Because at $1-10 commision per clip it's not worth my time. Shutterstock pays $30 per SD clip at full resolution, I sell 90% full resloution. HD is even better. Effectively it makes me exclusive at Shutterstock. In time, customer will look for my clips there and no where else, guaranteeing a certain amount of sales.

Yes, 4000 clips sounds like a lt of work, but it's worth it. I've been shooting for well over 20 years, I've got a pretty back-library to cull material from. I also spend at least 1 day a week in the winter and 3 days a week spring-summer-fall shooting. There is no short cut to success.

My advice is look carefully at all the footage sites, find what you feel is worth your time and stick with it. There's no point uploading to several differnt sites if one the sites is paying far less. You're only competing with yourself.

cheers
Francois

I currently have about 2100 clips at two major sites (SS and P5). Almost all of those have been shot within the last 15 month - and I do have a full time day job that has nothing to do with footage. It's just a matter of dedication to aquire a gallery that size - obviously having a store room filled with tapes from decades of shooting will help, but it's not neccessary. ;-)

Income? Well, I can't compete with Francois, but last month gave me $600 distributed over all sites (plus some from photos).

I have tried IS - got some 500 clips there. I found the upload process extremely tiresome and the reviews extremly slow (they had good weeks, too). While I sell more clips there than anywhere else, I still make a lot more money at P5 and SS.

You really need a gallery of considerable size at SS to see consistant sales, but it's sure worth going for.

I have to say I am really happy I went Exclusive with Istock video, I have just over 800 clips with them most are HD and I get quiet a few full size dl's now. I make in the triple figures as of last month. I have seen a 50-100 dollar increase over every month except for one this year 2007. I wish I had 4,000 clips on IS I could probably quit my day job. I am pretty consistent with dl every day if I can. This is a journey for all of us and I hope we all do really well.

Wow, 2100 clips online is quite impressive...
Btw, what site is P5? Never heard of it....
