Default Large Vrs small batch

I have noticed that there are a number of posts being submitted to some of the larger MS sites suggesting it may be more benifical to submit pictures in smaller rather than larger batches.

This is to avoid the much talked about "mass rejection" or "mass acceptance" that seems to occur.

When you think about it it's allmost bound to happen when a large number of different reviewers are involved - Naturally some are going to like your pictures more than others.

This leads to less consistant acceptance ratios...

As far as I can see, there are two ways to get around the problem, Firstly to submit in smaller batches, or secondly to get the sites to change their reviewing policy so one reviewer is not responsible for an entire batch.

Any thoughts? - How do you submit your pics?

Doug

Well I only submit to 6 sites..... and with 5 of them, it doesn't matter how I submit... large or small batch... they all get reviewed fairly.... usually 87% or more are accepted, and the ones that arent, just aren't what that site is looking for.... so I end up with different pictures on different sites...
but that's ok....

The only problem site for me is DT..... I had a few words with an admin over there through email.....about 8 months ago.... approval rating has been all down hill ever since.....

I shoot allot of humor and they just aren't humorous ! :?

Allot of people are talking about leaving the site if they put the 12 month clause in....
Union-Union-Union

The way "I" understand it.... and mind you now... I have been wrong before... back in 19.... oh well... anyway... ops:

After March 15th this year, they will require you to leave any photos uploaded after that date, on the web site for 12 months before they can be deleted.....

They are also offering a special exclusive deal IF you decide to be exclusive with them.....

The thing is... "I THINK" allot of people are confusing the two...
a number of people think after March 15th they will have to be exclusive and leave their photos up for 12 months....

One really has nothing to do with the other, but there are allot of unhappy people over there, per the forum the past couple of days....

I know the 12 month clause doesn't mean exclusive. But what happens down the road for example, especially with everything changing now, if there would be an offer for a buy out for a certain image? Sounds like you would be able to nofiy DT, and they would disable that particular image?? Am I understanding that correctly or is there more to be worried about?

For info: Here the thread making the announcement,

http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_2950

It doesn't look like you will be able to remove images uploaded after March the 15th for 12 months.

It looks like there trying to implement some sort of exclusivity thing but not go the whole way..

Bes,
According to what Achilies wrote.... he claims that IF a photographer gets an offer from another site for a buy out of a photo, all you have to do is let them know and they'll delete the photo for you.... so you have that part right....

I think the problem is that allot of photographers feel that down the road the trend will be, a number of sites will be making them go exclusive.... and they're afraid that if they get a better money deal with another site to go exclusive, they wont be able to, because they wont be able to take their photos off DT for 12 months from their last up load date.... so they may miss out on going exclusive with the other site....

Everyone's trying to figure out what's going to happen in the future, and how to protect themselves now before they lock into a deal that may hurt them later....

In the mean time..... Bill kissed Sally and Sally told Hank, but will Hank tell Carol ? Stay tuned as the sarga continues....

Thanks Bennyn. Sure would be nice to know in advance, which way the saga goes! After vowing to myself I would never go exclusive, I'm starting to think it might be pretty nice. I'm getting tired of maintaining different portfolios and really tired of keeping up with the different TOS's. I guess eventually, we'll all be blocked in a corner, one way or another.

I know what you mean Bes.... I said the same thing to myself ... why limit yourself by going exclusive... every site has it's own little group of buyers.... the more sites I'm on, the more exposure I get....

Not that I like to expose myself ! ops:

But there are buyers every where, why not try to reach as many as possible

Yup it would be less work... and you could figure out trends better if you were only on one site, especially where you'd get to know the buyers a little and what they like and want..... BUT... look at all the other potential buyers you'd be missing  It's been said many times, by people more experienced them me... this is a numbers game.... for the little bit of money we get... we have to sell to the masses....

But then again... like it's also been said a number of times... this is a very young industry.... and changes are comming....
If I could know for sure what those changes were, and exactly how they would work... I could make a million just by running an advice site ! :P

I think it's still a little too early to figure out for sure which way the industry might go..... there are so many possibilities.... ops: :?
