Default I stock questions

Just got accepted to istock, finally after 2nd attempt. (now if I could just get past SS acceptance). Now starting to upload, tedious process for such a pioneer company. How important are the categories? What a pain that is. Also, What is the meaning of the allow prints box??

Thanx

Very, it seems. I wouldn't know since I stopped uploading to them after September. The whole submission and uploading process there takes just too much time for a photo that sells at a dollar. I can make much more during the time involved by flipping hamburgers. I just don't care any more about a site that hasn't FTP and a rudimentary or no category system.

What's more, I dislike the atittude of IS that removed a couple of my posts from the forum. It's their site of course, but it's my photos. They used to be good till June 2006.

I dont submit to IS but the fact that they remove posts from the forum really intrigued me. What happened to freedom of speech? Unless a post is derogatory or personally offensive, I see no reason why peoples opinions shouldn't be left where they can be discussed and commented on ie a forum! Unless of course what you said hit home and we all know the truth hurts :P

I don't think categories matter that much with istock. My sales are going well there and I only choose one or two categories for most of my photos.

I also belong to IStock and SS - I must have been very lucky to be accepted the first time. When I got accepted at IStock, downloaded a few photos and found the prcess to be very time consuming and frustrating - I mean uploading one photo at a time and then catagorizing using How, When, Where Why, took forever, So for now, I have given up and waiting patiently for them to swith to something faster and easier......

Best of luck to you......

Once I realised that IS wanted three totally different images then it was not too difficult to get accepted there - getting posts to stick in the forum however, proved much more difficult

Since the upload process is tedious at IS, I normally submit my images to SS first and see what gets accepted. Then I upload my accepted SS images to IS and figure I have a better chance of having my images accepted. Then at least the time I spend uploading is not wasted as much.

I keep my rejected SS and evaluate them and if I think they could still be accepted at IS I set them aside. When I have nothing to upload to IS in a particular week I go to these images and upload them.

I do wish IS had an FTP upload process. I don't like using their image manager software, seems buggy for me.

There is no freedom of speech on a private forum, like IS or whatever. Freedom of speech is a public concept. That means you can start your own forum and nobody can prevent that. On privately paid and owned forums, you have to follow the rules of the owner. There are more hoaxes around in stock like these.

A Model release form. You don't need that for the site, but for yourself. If somebody sues you because you faked a MRF, it's your responsibility and it's you who's going to bleed.
Copyright. A stock site is not bound to defend your copyright. It's you who will have to sue and pay the lawyer. A site only agrees to respect your copyright and not to cooperate with infringements. They are your agents, not your mom. Ask Patrick ;-)

But of course I?m free too, as well as they are. I just don?t post any more at IS, I don?t even read their forums. That?s all. I won?t quit, I just ask a payout once in a while. Maybe they want me to quit because I don?t go exclusive. That?s their problem, they will have to kick me out ;-)

I honestly think that's a bad policy. IS doesn't have a noise-obsession like SS does. After a year in stock, I know what gets accepted, technically spoken. SS likes it noise-free, even texture free. So be it. DT, BSP, LO and FP are more relax. So what I do is upload my 10MP pics only to the last ones, and shrink them to 6MP for SS. Everybody is happy that way.
