Default $0.10 comission. Istock Question

Hi,

When does a sale go for $0.10 on istockphoto?

It's the second time it happened to me and with one of my most popular images.

I don't like the 20%, but those are the rules... now getting 0.10 for a sale is just ridiculous.

Cheers,

Antonio

Those are the old credits that are still floating around. It's really sad, but I think they are about a year and a half old. There's a sticky on the iStockphoto Discussion Forum that talks about it.

Hi, thank you for the reply. I really don't read the istock forums. My bad.

The weird part is this sale is not listed under the "old credits" but as a regular sale. Maybe a glitch...

Again, thanks.

Antonio

I don't think they are ever credited as 'old credits' but they should be pretty rare now. I haven't had one of these 10 cent sales for some time (thankfully)

.20% commission is just as ridiculous. I stopped uploading to IStock, and after I did, I started getting alot more downloads from Dreamstime, it appears people ARE shopping around. I'll take a .50 sale from Dreamstime over .20 cent download from IStock anyday.

A 50c DL from DT and a 20c DL from IS both sell for $1 so I dont think shopping around for the best price explains it.

My average sale works out to be around 41c on IS. Lower than some other sites but higher than the subscription models...

It sucks that some sites only pay .20-.50 cents, but usually those are the sites that give you the most sales...it totally makes up for the fact that you're making more money on other sites, but with less sales. My .25 cent download site - Shutterstock, is my best and will probably always be the best. And what's funny it, that's the site that I have the fewest amount of images on.

It's when they upped prices last year they let people buy the credits at the old rate. I was under the impression that it was to last for a year (meaning, ending in 1/06), but I got two .10 sales in July. Apparently it lasts for the life of whomever owns them. It's a great deal for the buyer but shafts the photographer. It's one of the many things that ticks me off about IS. I stay with them though, because overall, the sales are pretty good.
