Default Is a model release needed for each shoot?

Is a model release needed for each shoot of the same model?
It is my understanding that it is but am asking here as I am getting my first "in the mail".
This is in trade for the images I shoot. What is the best way to give the model the images? Email a folder & they make their own cd or make them a cd from my computer?
Basic questions but I'm very new to this aspect of photography.
Thanks,
Mary

From a cost perspective, you should just give them a CD with the agreed photos. They may want prints though so it really depends on what agreement you make up front.

yeah, how does that work? Is the release for the one date of the shoot and all photos that come from that date? Good question...I never used a release, never shot any models.

Featurepics is kind of vague in the release wording. Fotolia says,
Quote:
This agreement (this ?Agreement?) applies to any and all photographs of the Model and/or the Model?s property (the ?Property?) taken on the session date(s) noted below (collectively, the ?Photographs?).
So, I think you wanna have the model sign each time, if only to cover your butt.

Default Yes each session

I'm no expert but this is how I understand it.

If you agree to shoot a model over several consecutive days as a single session then one model release is fine. But if you shoot the same model at different times of the year or there are several weeks between shoots you need to have a seperate model release.

I tend to use a model release for each individual session - it applies to each image you shoot from that session.

You should have an agreement before you do the shoot as to what you will give in trade for the model's time. If it is a friend or family member, they usually just want one or two prints - price wise that's not bad.

Others want prints of everything (usually 8X10 or larger) and I don't usually do that because of the cost (walmart is only $2.97 for an 8X10, but the quality is not up to the local lab I use, and they charge $8.97 for a print) so I prepare a disc with the images and the agreement before I shoot will state the images will be provided on disc along with a letter of authorization allowing them to have reprints made at a lab of their choice.

I wind up giving that letter because a number of labs (walmart was one of them) would not print the images from disc because "they were taken by a professional". I really don't get that since I've given them the disc with my label on it, that should be authorization enough. If I recall, you can sign a waiver at walmart to avoid the letter, but I'd rather not have my images reprinted "wholesale" and not know whose doing it.

Thanks everyone for weighing in on this topic.
Hopefully the input here will help others in the future.
