IStock......ouch!
After hearing how difficult IStock can be on new photographers, I decided to wait a bit until applying there. I submitted three of my best selling as well as most widely accepted images, and two were accepted, but I've had to re-submit a third image twice now.
Makes me wonder if I'm ever accepted, how tough is it going to be to build a gallery there. Oh well, just means I have to photograph more.

Sorry bud. Just keep trying. If it's any consolation I have a harder time getting images accepted by ss over is. I'm sure it's just a difference in style and taste by the reviewers.
Did they give you reasons why your pictures were not accepted?

Yeah, they're actually not too bad about giving reasons. a bit more specific than other sites. I just wonder if it's this way with the initial approval process, or if all their responses are this way.
However, one of them did say "some areas are too soft due to too much noise reduction" but they don't say what areas.
No big deal, just gotta keep trying.

It took me a while to get approved at IS, and found that it's easier after the initial approval to get images approved.

Hi jaystock,
I agree that it takes a while to get approved at iStock, but like you said, they are specific about their nits, so you have some clear guideline.
I'm new to this myself, and I never regretted putting the extra effort ( more than 3 times resubmitted, btw) on iStock, not just because they generate extra sales (my 2nd highest, even though I have 50% less uploads sitting there), but it's also a good learning process about stocks, at least for me ( as a newbie) it is.
I agree with the previous poster that it's getting harder to put images up on SS nowadays. Not because they (SS) are stricter, but I find their reviews less consistent.
cheers.

I think SS has a lot of approvers, so the results of approvals are way more random, and inconsistent like you said.
I have the same hard time with iStock, I need to try and submit some of my top 20 to them, probably 1 or 2 will get accepted Hey, at least I could always convert earnings to credits so that I can buy a random stock photo if I ever get in a bind at work

I think you're quite possibly spot-on that there may be more reviewers on SS contributing to the inconsistencies.
In any case, to the original poster, jaystock, you already have two out of three accepted, keep it working on it, send in another image which you think will meet their requirements, and join in.
cheers,

I have to say that in the long run they are a good site, after all.. You get a lot of sales despite no uploads at all in the last couple of weeks. Even old photos sell well. At SS they approve pics without hassle, but they seem to have sort of a shelf-life and dl's decline as time goes by. I really like DT these days, they move a lot of pics and a dollar a dl it's getting interesting.

That's kinda what I'm hoping for, everyone seems to say they do pretty well with sales there, so I think it will be worth the short term hassle of getting approved. I already submit to several other sites, so anything I can get from IStock is just extra coin.

When I first joined Istock I kept getting images declined because they were too similar - one was a dog, another a chicken and I think the third was an insect or something. I had great difficulty with the third shot in the end I got so fed up I snapped a picture of a brick wall with salt on it and sent that in - it was accepted :!: :!:
