Default Fotolia Keywords

I'm noticing that some of my old uploads to Fotolia have poor keywords, or some have disappeared. How can you sell a shot of strawberries without strawberry in the keywords???

Has anyone deleted old files and reworked the keywords and reuploaded the files. I don't see any other way to adding keywords at Fotolia or Shutterstock. Is this a worthwhile strategy, while running the risk of rejection?

Resign yourself that FT's keyword system was broken during their Version 2 update and they refuse to admit it. Many threads here have complained about it over the last year or so.

My advice to to forget about the existing images and keyword only your top few keywords for FT. The newer images seem to retain the top few keywords. Searching for multiple top keywords for your older images will be fruitless and frustrating. For my top older images there the only search that will find them is with ONE keyword only and only using the "downloads" sort.

The relevance search, in my experience, yields more irrelevant images.

God help you if you try to find your best selling image using your top few keywords. They seem to disappear into the nether land of the data base even though you have a best seller. How customers found it I have no idea unless they had lightboxed it during Version 1.

I have experienced what you have said, I'm trying to get back to the glory days when I sold a large amount of photos and was roaring away in the ranking system. Now I'm doing well but nothing like how it was.

Some of my old photos look like a fifth grader took them, but I do have some gems in the 4 year old images that are doing nothing, so I was wondering about a re upload of some of these images and keyword again.

Thanks for your comments

I would reupload them first - don't delete the old ones until the new ones are approved. You might be able to leave a note to the reviewer that this is all you're doing (note to the editor field above the keywording section). Perhaps this will give you the hook up when it comes to getting them approved, as they should be.

On SS you can edit your keywords.

Click on "Status of Submitted Photos" on the middle menu below (the "check your numbers" box).

Insert the image number on the "Edit Photo ID" field and there you have it.

Hope it helps. Cheers
