Default In camera noise removal?

Hi all,

I am curious if it is better to use the noise removal built into my camera or is it best to shut it off and just remove it with software later?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Travis I don't use any in camera noise removal, I shoot raw with a Nikon. The best solution is to be careful about your exposure and shoot more to the right side of the histogram, any small areas of local noise in a deep shadow can be selected and a slight gaussin blur added to smooth out the noise.

Lots of people including me have Noise Ninja, but it can quickly get out of control and soften your image too much.

I rarely have a problem with noise, I just try to keep my ISO as low as possible or use my tripod if I have to (I drag that thing everywhere with me), I just got thinking about it today and wasnt really sure if I should be using that in camera noise removal function.

Im kinda curious how it works too, I guess a lot of that depends on what camera you are using. I have the Olympus E-500. Say you left it turned on when you were shooting at like 100 ISO is it going to automatically soften your photos? I guess maybe I should post this on an Olympus forum or something.
