I was impressed with Yay the first time I looked at it and even more impressed after seeing the search function today. I used the non-FTP to upload 200+ images a few weeks ago with very little effort. I put in some of my best keywords and found a good representation of images, meaning there are lots of images already on the site. Certainly more than the other newbie sites I reviewed.

Which leads me to this question. What in the hell is wrong with SnapVillage--that they haven't even come close to the slickness of Yay in terms of just about everything?

And an even tougher question. What the hell is wrong with Istock in not getting their act together in terms of uploading ease?

I think if there is one thing the "established" sites had better watch is how much we appreciate sites that really listen to what we want. Ease of uploading, including scrapping the antique category requirement tops my list.

Can anyone here remember using DOS? Or Wordstar? Or Viscalc? Nobody has a permanent lock on internet based business. Those that think they do can go reminisce with those who had a lock on spats and buggy whips.

Unfortunately, that tells more of the need of getting photographer's at any price than a deeper philosophy. It has happened oother times; if the microsite succeeds (very difficult in these times, by the way), this open rules change fast.

Funny because I was just writing that waiting for SV to do something is like waiting for the Great Pumpkin.

They announced their Beta site last July. How long does this take?

As for YM, I'll wait. You can all have the fun.

Same for Cutcaster which seems to be paying attention and doing everything they can to make a photographer friendly site.

How's this for friendly: I just uploaded 4 new images of workers erecting a new cinder block wall at my house. The actual time I spent on Yay (not counting the internet upload time while I was reading the newspaper) selecting those 4 images, then telling Yay to review them was LESS THAN 10 SECONDS.

Upload is cake there, similar to Mostphotos.com.

Fotomind.com is also really easy. I heard you can categorize "MISC" for all images, since categories will go away soon. The site support emailed me that, when we were going back and forth with a support issue.

There is 56,000 in the istock queue. I think they haven't implemented FTP to keep the queue manageable. They should just get more reviewers and perhaps the new owners will push them on this.

...and my dog ate my homework. Seriously, there is no end to reasons why. But there are ramifications to decisions. My only point was that there is always a faster gun out there sooner or later. So when you're the baddest man in the saloon you need to sit with your back to the wall.

Any sales on YAY yet guys? I wanna start seeing some action, something to encourage me to keep wasting more time submitting to them. Otherwise I'll let my account go into hibernation I don't have time to screw around anymore.

The search is live now, but I guess people can't buy until June 2nd? That's what I'm thinking.

Sup:
June 2nd is the scheduled public date for downloads. So I'm not going to start bitching until June 3rd. Now that we can't kick LO around what's a guy to do? So my 232 images there are ready and anxious to go.

Very decent of you Lou and nobody can ever accuse you of not giving them a chance :-)
