Post ShutterPoint went microstock

I got an e-mail from shutterpoint today about them adapting micropayments. Apparently it was pre-announced a while back but I missed it. I think they realized that selling images for $20 and up is getting tougher with all these other sites selling for pennies. Well, good for them.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. For those who don't know, they don't restrict almost anything, they charge fees for putting images on the site and, but they try to compensate it with much higher than average payout rates. I did make some money there and I have some storage space so I am gathering my next batch of uploads.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Happy shooting!

$49 for 200mb space a year seems very restrictive. I would only be a be to upload about 60 images.

Thanks for the update! :-)

Anymore it just doesn't make much sense to have to pay extra to sell your work, which is why I never joined Shutterpoint. I'd much rather pay a higher percentage of my commission for unlimited storage space than having to worry about cutting a check every year and dealing with the uncertainty as to whether I will see a return on my investment. And as Sharpshot said, 200MB doesn't even scratch the surface of providing enough space for my 38GB portfolio.

I joined shutterpoint before I discovered Microstock - took a six month slot and never sold anything so never renewed.

Like Kerioak, I was there for 6 months before coming to micro.
I did manage to make one sale which coverd my cost for space.

Really don't know how they will fare in micro - their stuff is very mixed quality as they accept everything that is uploaded.
I suppose that will have to change also.

They take everything, because they charge contributers for the disk space. So if you want to pay for your space, then upload crap that won't sell, they don't mind. Part of their income stream is selling space.

Exactly. You become your own reviewer so to speak. When you allow yourself to upload crap, you lose. What I learned is to submit my best selling stuff there, but I agree that storage limits get tight pretty fast. I wish they dropped the whole concept of having to pay for space. Don't know if they'd be able to keep the 85% payouts if that ever happens.

It's funny to me that their lowest rez costs 99 cents, not a dollar like elsewhere :-D

It was the first place I ever contributed to. I admit it, I fell for the oldest scam in the book. I haven't been there in a few years but back then, their images were crap - and that's why they didn't sell. Save your money - if you want to pay to play then go to Digital Railroad and spend your time with the pros and with a place that has a great reputation.

Wow a whopping 200mb? I wonder what it would cost me to put up my 2 terabyte portfolio?
