Default Anyone making any progress at SV?

Anyone here making any progress at SlapperTown, or got anything positive to say about it?

I am just approaching my 500th upload (most painful experience); I have two sales so far at $10 giving $3 commission for each sale.

I have to say I expected more from Corbis. There seems to be very little progress with development of the site, and frankly the whole thing seems lukewarm at best.

Then again I suppose things are always darkest before the dawn..... it's just that I don't think SlapperTown has got past midnight yet and dawn is a long way away.........

539 uploade, 5 sales so far, 3 of them subscription sales. I emailed them to ask roughly how much longer the site would be in beta and they replied that there is no date to launch properly yet. Until the beta is dropped, I don't expect many sales.

They are doing much better than Albumo though. They launched at the same time and I only have 1 sale there with twice as many images online.

Well I've disallowed subscriptions at SV so I'll be losing out on those 30c sales.

I'm glad I'm not involved with Albumo (or any of the other up and coming sites). Nonetheless, big trees grow from little acorns as you have pointed out once or twice.

I have about 60 images at SV with 5 sales. One of them a subscription. They're slowly making improvements.

Albumo has about the same number of images and is totally dead for me. I'm not even getting views for anything I uploaded a month ago. The white flower that's been on the homepage forever has a whopping 2 downloads.

I haven't bothered uploading anything other than just a few files...it's just too time consuming without ftp. I'm too bogged down trying to convert 400 approved files at Photoshelter so they are live and producing new work to contribute to another micro with ftp.

213 online with SV and a whopping 90 cents in sales. I uploaded enough to Albumo to get the $25 bonus, but nothing since. I've had no downloads. I'm wondering if I'll ever see the $25 and I'm regretting uploading to them since you must leave your images there for 400 days.

I'm going to focus on Photoshelter for now. Rejects from there will go to Alamy (someday). Rejects from both will go to micro. Rejects from micro will go to the recycle bin.

I found the latest SV blog interesting. Posted up on Oct 19th, it contains a list of 'suggested photo submissions' to give people ideas. Two of the suggestions are Halloween and Thanksgiving. Whoever posted that suggestion obviously has no idea about the image sales market - to suggest submission of Halloween just a week or two before the event, and Thanksgiving just four weeks before the event is just plain amateurish.

With hardly any progress with the web site design and functionality, staff in charge who appear to have no experience or knowledge of the microstock or stock photo market in general, and apparently no idea of when the thing will 'go live', I suspect that efforts at SV will go to waste until they get new management.

New management has got to be happening soon. Way too much behind this site to have it continue to be so inept. And no excuse whatever for the stonewalling there as to the future. Lots of folks take LO to task for excessive jubilation about very little. Snap doesn't seem to be saying or doing anything about anything. What in the world is Corbis thinking about this garbage?

I have my own theory.

Big companies are buying smaller microstock ones just to destroy them.

I feel that is what's happening to iStock, for example.

Now, call me mad, but please hang on and let's see what happens in one year time.

Then, if I was wrong, call me silly.

Interesting theory. What would be the reason and benefit?
