Default Urgent Feedback Needed

Hi folks,

Working on a make-up brochure for a client who has chosen this image as their front-cover (not shot by me) but would appreciate some valuable feedback as to what all of you think of it good, bad or indifferent, please feel free to let rip.

Hi Ed,

Speaking my mind (and I know you do) it looks to be a colour toned image, I'm assuming you've seen the image at it's native resolution and it meets the techinal quality that's required.

One question I have is, is this a stock photo or is it a photo using the companies make up for whom you're doing the brochure?
Or if the photo is for a make up artist, did they do the make up ?

Either way there's one thing that's bothering me and it's the line going across the shadow area above the nostril, hard to spot at first but if you look at the image for long enough you'll see it, and then you can't help but see it. If you do use it get rid of the line.

I think it's a bit dark but that might be the look they are after, only you'll know that.
Are you putting text over the image?

And do you want to know what we think of the image just as an image, or what we think of the image for it's intended use.

It's nice, interesting, a bit dark, possibly crossprocessed.

If the customer has chosen it, I do not see the issue, anyway.

I think it would work great as a front cover. It attracted my interest at least. I think it all comes down to how much text you need to put in. The picture stands very good on its own but I'm not so sure it would work that well if it would be covered with lots of text.

Both richard and thank you to everyone else for taking the time to comment.
Personally speaking, I don't like it at all. It's a getty stock image - not that that makes any difference - but as a front cover for a make-up brochure I find it too austere, lacking in depth and a little too goth looking.

Depends on what the client wants their target market to be. If it's people who want to look like zombies or straight out of Night of the Living Dead, it's a hit. Personally the content isn't upliftng.

As for the photo itself, I like the contrast. Not sure about the green skin tones, pebbled skin surface? (or is that my Web computer monitor?)

Yeah, I don't like it much either...it WOULD NOT entice me to buy their makeup...

She could cover up that nasty black eye with a bit of foundation.

Really - at first glance it's quite a striking image but the more i look at it the more i dislike it. It does depend on the market i suppose - If this is for a beauty product it's not a great look. For a more sleazy disheveled look this is perfect.
