Default Site for newbies

Hi there,

I'm a complete newbie at this. I'll be honest - I have not yet sold my first picture but I love photography and hope to learn the ropes fast. I've started a blog to document my learnings and experiences - talk about which pictures have been accepted and which ones have been rejected and why. Thant sort of thing... I hope to become a regular on this site and learn from the rest of you !!

Well, yours might be the first Blog that I actually read. I bump into them from time to time, but most are more like Flogs, where people beat their chest and hopelessly spew partisan politics. :-D

As another complete newbie, and little hope of doing anything Micro for a couple more months, I'll be reading. Most of my current work is editorial/news.

What I do here, when I can visit, is take notes and learn from the advise that people share. I have a file folder full of printed tips about the sites and what I should try to do, as well as the advise on what I should avoid. It's going to smooth out the learning curve.

I'll watch your blog with interest, as I'll be following.

(Went and looked. Please keep it up!)

Default Thanks

Thanks for the positive comments - I really do appreciate them. I decided that by using this blog not only as a communications tool but also as a personal journal to keep track of my experiences, it should motivate me to keep it current.

I just had my first acceptance to a micro payment stock photography site this morning and have just uploaded to my site the images that they accepted. I'm feeling pretty excited about this !!

Chris

Just under two weeks in and I now have a grand total of 5 pictures approved and accepted on iStockPhoto.com. Stop laughing all you seasoned pros - we all have to start somewhere

No sales yet - how long did most of you have to wait before you saw your first sales? I really have no idea what to expect...

It takes a little while to get going at IS. Just keep uploading and eventually the sales will kick in. For insta-sales, SS can't be beat. My first referral just started selling yesterday with 10 photos online, and already he's sold 14. :-D

I agree, SS great for instant results and IS and Dreamstime good for building up thereafter.

Default My 1st Sale !!!!

Just wanted to shout out that I made my first sale last night at iStockPhoto.com. It took me just over a month from the point when I started this as a hobby. It's just a tiny fraction of what most of you do in a month I'm sure but it feels great to know someone paid money for a picture I took !!!

Great motivation to keep going

Chris

At this time, it's just iStockPhoto.com. I figured I would wait until I had 15-20 approved and accepted images there before branching out to the others. What other sites would you recommend for quick and/or steady sales ?
