Default New categories on iStock

Great to see iStock have gone and changed things again!!

So now we only have to add three categories, but they aren't that great.

Your existing files have been automatically entered into the new category system, but reading the forum and checking some of my own files they don't fit the image.

And in the time honoured iStock tradition, there's the usual amount of 'kissing up' on the forum from exclusives and lack of response/care from the management.

Default Love It

I like the new system and I kiss-up because they pay-up.

Looks like more work, if it is worth using categories.

Yeh...there are a few holes in the categories. I uploaded some photos of the Arizona desert and a natural well, and couldn't find anything for American travel, deserts, or bodies of water other than oceans. And then...LOL...I kept over-writing my previously entered categories, because I wasn't familiar with the new interface.

And in the time honoured forum fashion and to suit your own predjudices you overlook the fact that there are some extremely vociferous exclusives pouring scorn over the whole sorry mess.

To be fair I have to say, this is the first time in my memory that istock has made the submission process easier instead of more complex. It's a time saver for me, I'm happy with it.

For new submissions it should be easier, but if you read their forums and check your own files you'll see that all your existing images should have new categories entered automatically, some of mine have and some haven't, of the one's that have the new categories don't match the image.

I'm not exactly whooping with joy about the prospect of having to check every image to see if the new categories match the image in question, another point to note is that the new categories are not complete yet, for instance 'people' gives you no further choice, so that leaves you with the choice of enetering it under the new category 'people' for now, and then going back and doing it again once they've completed entering all the sub categories.

I'd hardly call this a time saver, and like many others I'm not happy that they've introduced a new system that isn't ready. Even a few of the exclusives have been brave enough to complain.

Don't know about old images, but the new process is much better. Now if they read my descriptions and keywords like the other 9 sites, it wouldn't suck anymore. But the categories alone makes it much faster
