Wink Time come for stills?

I was browsing the web today and noticed that quite alot of video adverts are apearing in places where stock photography would have been used in the past.

DO you think there will allways be a demand for photography and still images in the future?

I supose there is allways the magazines - or will they be replaced with portable media from the internet??

There has to allways be a place for photos - doesn't there?

Doug

I don't think the newer media (Flash, video, animations, etc.) replaces still photography on an aggregate demand basis.

What I mean by that is, yes, it may be used more often on the web (although, I'm not sure this is the case either), but the total demand for stills, from magazines, brochures, catalogs, etc., has increased as well.

Net/Net.....buyers of our images may be coming from different places on a percentage basis, but there are more of them in total than ever before.

Just my .02

The day may come when magazines and newspapers are a thing of the past, but it won't happen any time soon. Not for at least 20 years I'd suspect. Actually there are more magazines now than ever before, more advertisers turning back to the printed media after failures with web advertising, and more people getting into the magazine business. As for the online and digital-only magazines, they still need stock photography too. They may not be buying the larger image sizes, but they'll still buy them, especially microstock where they don't get killed on price for a low-res image like at the macro sites.

I must admit I hate the moving images on the screen unless I am actually watching a video etc on purpose. I will copy and paste relevant information onto a word processor if it is something I really want to read to be able to watch it in peace. Often I have just left the page though and thought if they don't want me to read it in peace I won't!
