Default how many downloads per month average ?

I've only been dabbling in micro stock for past year and sales are trickling in at a fairly slow rate. I'm curious what are some approximate sales figures per month for all you other photographers doing micro stock ?

Most folks choose to keep their earnings private, myself included. What I will say is that my primary source of income is from microstock sales.

95% of submitters do not make much, but the remaining 5% is doing pretty well.

Look at 'Logos' with SS, he's averaging 1000 DLs per day...

I wanted to know that when I started. The best guide I found was that people with high quality stock photos, that upload to most of the sites regularly, can make at least $1 per image per month. Some make a lot more. Those with lower quality images might make 50 cents and that can go right down if the quality is poor or the images are not good for stock.

I average almost exactly one DL per day, but that is on a portfolio of only slightly over 200 across all 6 sites. Of those the range is: almost all made it onto FP down to only one image on IS. I do not have any on SS or SX.

I am saving my best pictures for Alamy, as I am not doing this for the money, just the kick that someone would actually pay money for my photos. And the more money they are prepared to pay the bigger the kick

I average about 300 dls/mo. on iStock with 539 images, and about 450/mo on Shutterstock with 494 images. You do the math. You will find that as you continue submitting on a regular basis your dls/per/image average will increase. I have probably 50% of my images that I posted in my first year that I would not upload now, just because I have a better feel for what can sell. Although one image that was my best seller for two years was an afterthought to upload. So I'd recommend revisting old images that didn't pass muster the first go round. And never be as smug as I was in "knowing" what the buyer is looking for.

More than 1000, less than 10000. I'm not authorized to say more :-)

As Karin, microstock is my main source of income now.

How do you look up a photographer by their name on SS?

Maybe someday I'll get to a point where I am both humble enough to not reveal such information AND I'm making a living from microstock.

Luckily for the thread-starter, today is not that day.

I've only been in microstock for a month. I have under 100 images online at SS, SXP, dreamstime, fotolia, Crestock, and BS. So far my earnings at the last few listed are not even worth reporting. However in my first month of microstocking at SS I'm banking around $310 (1238 DLs), and around $120 at SXP (112 DLs). Quite surprised with SXP actually. Didn't expect a first-month return like that.

I fully acknowledge, however, that a first month on any site is hardly a good indication of anything, and next month could easily be better or just as easily be worse. That's also why I don't mind announcing my earnings. This month's take will likely be very different from upcoming months.

Since the subject of Yuri came up, thought I'd also add this:

While Yuri did reveal his 1000 DL day at SS, and we can all figure out pretty easily what he's pulling in each month, he really didn't reveal much info at all about how much he actually makes in microstock. According to Yuri's website, SS is one of 16 agencies he sells images with, both microstock and high-priced outfits. While surely he isn't making $300 per day from each of the 16 (I know Crestock is one of his and even he can't be pulling much over there), I imagine his SS earnings don't even represent half of his earnings.

Even if all he managed from the other 15 sites was another $300 all together, $600/day would keep most people quite happy.

Feel free to do the quick math on how much $600 a day comes out to in terms of yearly pay. Just make sure you're sitting down first.
