Default Fun?

so...Im interested to know what do you guys do for fun/socialising at weekends? Or is it all photography and no play lol? Im a big fan of pubs/clubs and once my kids get picked up by their dad on a Friday night I virtually fly out the door lol. Im not a big television fan, so I tend to get very bored staying at home on my own  apart from that I enjoy working out :P

Most of my socializing lately revolves around photography. Heck...most everything I do revolves around photography or photography revolves around the other things I do!

I love taking road trips, and of course the camera tags along for the ride. I love cooking and eating out, and of course my camera wants to eat, too. Lately I've started collecting vintage cookware, dishware and linens again, which I stopped doing about 10 years ago. I need interesting props for my food shoots. I've also been attending photo shoots sponsored by a couple of the micros, which has opened up my social circle.

But when I need an escape, I turn to movies. Yeh...I know...I just can't seem to get away from imagery! Haha!

I'm still a micro virgin, I'll explain.

I spend from the end of April until Mid-October at the races. Just about every weekend I'm working as a volunteer corner worker, administrator duties, or media photographer for pro events. That means some weekdays as well. Most of what I shoot is not Micro suitable because of logos, designs, trademarks, and the rights that the sanctioning body and the tracks claim over all photos. Maybe someday?

Pro racing events I'm usually out trackside, or scouting the pits and paddock, from Sunrise to Sunset. I love it! Sometimes I forget to eat...

But I still have a desire to get back into something that pays more than one use in racing publications. That's why I hang out here and read advise and hints that everyone here is so good about sharing.

Social life? What's that? Until last Jan. I worked my day job and then filled in bar tending evenings and weekends, in the off season for racing. I'm possibly starting at a new place next week, which will mean one full time day job, the part time four nights a week, and still have all my weekends at the races.

My Sunday nights are free?

I carry a pocket digital camera with me everywhere now. I'd hate to miss a shot. I don't carry the DSLR except on weekends, because I hate to have it just sitting in the car and I can't carry around a big camera bag and telephoto when I'm away from the car. (I drive a station wagon, no secure place out of site.)

Might as well add in that I'm a computer geek and have a spare computer online all day long at the office. I can be working on orders or editing and still have the Internet and email up and waiting.

Of course I read here daily. This is my #1 photo site and the first one to read as soon as I have some spare time, while I'm not watching a computer run anti-virus, do a spyware check, or defrag.

Nothing better than a road trip with the camera, riding the back roads, looking for things to shoot.

I work afternoon shift as a building engineer. on the week day mornings when I'm so inclined to get out of bed I usually start working o photos. By thee time I get 1 or 2 done and uploaded I have to go to work. When I get home from work I do the same thing until about 2 in the morning.

On the weekends My wife and I will hang out with friends, play cards, go on the boat, or take a cruise down an old highway, I almost always have a camera with me, just incase!

You shouldn't have to make time for fun. it should already be there.

I am certianly not going to make stock photography more than just a hobby. (my wife thinks that I spend too much time on the computer as it is)

I love going to the beach (in the summer) I wish I lived closer to the shore. Other than that, I try and find time to upload at least 10 new pics a week - I end up spending so much time producing images, and not enough keywording I need to clear out my old inventory and just get them up. My fulltime dayjob sucks up the rest of my time.

On the weekends I just like hanging out with friends...I'm 24, but I'm becoming a homebody :P I don't have money to spend going out on the town like I used to, because I just bought a house, so bills are up to my neck. If it wasn't for Micro, I'd be barely making ends meet. The wedding planning has been killing my weekends, if it's not working on my stupid old toyota that's taking them up. This weekend I have to rip apart my transmission...ugh

For me, the weekends are just work -but at least I get to be working at home When I finish all of my chores around the house, I like to watch LOST on Wednesdays (haha) and occasionally play video games with friends or online. I also mountain biking around town, or wherever.

When not shooting, cooking, cleaning house, etc... I'm on my bicycle, mostly road now, but if at all possible I'm in the dirt (literally sometimes) on the mountain bike.

Hi,

I'm not much of a going out/party animal... so besides my daily chores at home (cleaning, dishes, laundry, cooking, shopping, etc), my photography work i like to relax in front of the tube with a good movie. I'm a big SF, horror, mystery fan.

On sunny days i like to ride the countryside for beautiful landscapes, scenery... i know, i know, not big sellers, but i like taking those...lol...

Patrick.

My main past-time is my 5 year psychology degree, which I've just started this semester. So within the next 5 years I'll be a clinical psychologist (hopefully). Studying takes A LOT of time but to make financially possible I work part time at a rather nice hotel in Oslo. In addition I work out and also play floorball. And spend time with the boyfriend, whom with I also share a flat.

I carry my camera with me at (nearly) all times so I try to sneak in some time to shoot between cognitive psychology, experiments on childrens' memory development and everything else.

Love music and films, so whatever time I manage to spend at home on the sofa is usually combined with either (when, of course, I'm not editing photos on my laptop).

Btw, very clever thread this one. Really nice to get to know a little bit more about the people whose names you see almost every day

Paul (age 27, if anyone was wondering)

yep its great discovering that there is a person behind the photographer lol

I turned 32 this week, but I got to admit I always crave nightlife and socialising. Im quite young at heart, I guess its my two toddlers that keep me that way lol. Most nights I chat on MSN with my friends, as being a single mum restricts me from going anywhere during the week at night. I decided to give my Friday night out a miss this week, and concentrate properly on photography again. Im also trying to save to go to Turin in June, to see a live dancemusic concert of my favourite artist. Gotta agree with you tho Todd, if it wasnt for the payouts from micro, theres no way Id be able to afford the extras and treats for my kids. Apart from that it also breaks up the mundane tasks of cleaning, cooking and children's entertainer lol.

I love to slip on my running shoes and go and remove some cobwebs in the woods. I find this is a really good time for thinking and I get some of my best ideas there and obviously helps me keep my adonis body!!!!
