Always wanting to break free from Microsoft and run Linux, Adobe Photoshop is the only application that keeps me using MS-Windows. I heard that GIMP is a good replacement, but I'd like some first hand experience from the real world. Anybody tried or used it?

I'm using Gimp in Linux and I love it. It will probably take some time to get used to it when you're used to Photoshop. But there's also a Gimp-Version that looks like Photoshop (don't remember the name though).

Potoshop has a few more functions but you can install a lot of plugins in gimp and it's also very easy (at least in Ubuntu).

There's also a Gimp-Version for Windows if you want to try it out before switching OS completely.

Well I don't much like it. Considering the price, though it's a pretty close second to photoshop, but it is missing some of the functionality of CS2 (at least it was last time I tried it).

It would be worthwhile for you to try it yourself - everyone has their own opinions on software.
