Pole position, I hope!
Ive been trying for ages to knock the best selling burger from pole position on shutterstock. Ive succeeded, but as the weeks roll by, mine drops back into second place, and jumps around from second to third for the keyword "burger"
After god knows how much work, testing, experimenting with a dummy burger, and shopping for ingredients (12 buns, 4 heads of lettuce, 2 trips to the supermarket etc etc) I got this, which I think is an improvement on my prevous burger shots:

Its uncropped, with just a minor levels adjustment.

Great photo.
The problem is that you are using real food. I remember watching show on how mcDonalds makes their burger look good on photos and some of it wasn't real food, they sprayed on hair spray to make the lettice look better etc.

mmmm, tasty.
I could never shoot food, I'd eat it before I was done with the shoot.

Hairspray isnt needed, as Im not working under hot lights, and the time constraints with regards to the freshness of the burger fading are relative. In fact I have more control with oil, which fades in a few moments, and can be refreshed as desired, unlike hairspray

Ive done that many times before, usually when I order a pizza Im planning on shooting.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Im hoping it'll do well on shutterstock. If ever there was an image I hoped Id one day catch up with in print, this would be it
Just need to darken the lower bun, and its finished!

I think you should change your userid from LockStockBob to the Hamburgler.
That's a big effort there - and it shows! Good work!

Wow, I'm impressed! Did you shoot it in front of flames like that, or is that photoshopped? Whatever yo did - awesome job. I'd give it the #1 spot
Man, am I ever glad I referred LockStockBob - with him selling pics like this, I won't have to shoot! :P

Ive sold 44 pics on shutterstock today for 11 bucks, plus referrals. Looks like Im going to break my record of 52 sales in one day Thats about a buck for you so far, lucky git!
As for the flames... I'll post an editorial story of the shoot in progress which you can read about next month (I like suspenders, you see)

hahah you've been keeping me afloat during my last few months of not submitting anything keep up the good work! I have about 5 or 6 really good referrals on shutterstock, but I think you're the best :P
That's an awesome day - my record for one day is still $19.36
70sales 17.50 + 1.86 referrals - back in September. That was right after I submitted a batch of 25, and they all got accepted. That was just some weird ass miracle. BOB- If I had more hamburger shots in there, I would've sold even more that day!!!
edit: man, that burger shot sure has a lot of mayo! good for photography, but not for your arteries LOL

Hey Todd
Ive broken my record, and it keeps going up, and up, and up. Following 65/67 photos (i think it was) being accpeted on SS, woohooo!
re: the mayo, there is hardly any on the burger at all, just a few squirts from a medical syringe in the right places. Im going to cook up a rack of lamb tonight, if I have time. Its been in the fridge waiting to be roasted for 3 days now zzz
PS, your top sales day is a great figure, nice work!
