Default Wifi Internet Access for your batch uploads

Interesting site...I have one of these thumb drives, and I'd love to improve the signal

looks like a pretty easy setup? 5 mile range!? I'll take it!

Fishing rod and sieve? Well, I could probably afford that one

...though at the moment I'm not wifi literate at all. I'm happy sitting in my office and working from there, but it'd be nice to have when we are travelling.

Definitely. I'm just too poor to be able to afford internet at home...so I figure I can see who's broadcasting it in my hood

When i was living in the City last year, we had access to three different wireless networks, None of them had any security on them.

I have heard that if someone is "advertising" their network by allowing their SSID to be broadcast then it is legal to attach to it

Good news eh

We had some serious download speed in that house

Everyone I hear from Boston or New York City say's they never had to pay for internet ever since they moved there. It's crazy. Wifi hitspots are becoming more and more abundant. I gotta figure out if I can increase / improve my signal by using that chinese bamboo skimmer trick. A pasta pan lid helped boost it up a little bit, but it's so touchy. Right now I can only get signal to this one network when I dangle the usb adapter from the track lighting on my ceiling fan.

I think the metal on the ceiling fan is acting like an antenna booster in itself!

I do love wifi and use it on a secure site, but I would not use it for anything that requires privacy on an open network.

While the chances are slim that a hacker will be close enough to hack into your system via the open network, it can still happen.

If you can log onto someone elses open network, that means that anyone with a snooping program can look into what sites you are visiting and what passwords you are using.

I don't know about Canada but in the US and at least Taiwan, it's illegal to connect onto someone else's network without permission. I read about a teenager being sued for accessing a neighbors wifi network and the teenager found guilty in Taiwan. Only reason I know about the Taiwan issue.

As to hacking into an open network, I saw a demonstration on why a secured network is best and how someone can see what you are doing on an open network with a sniffer program.

Also setup your network with a hard password with numbers and letters and nothing as so simple as being your name, etc...

No it's not legal to steal internet access, even if the site is unsecured.

If you want to see an eye full, go download Netstumbler software. I tried it and driving around a four city block rectangle found open networks every couple hundred feet.

Here I thought I'd "find" some open network. Instead I was flooded with them.

Now I use the software for finding my own network and which others can be in conflict when I'm setting up locations for our internal private communications network at the races.

A bit over the top, this setup include GPS tracking, external antenna that mounts on the roof and software that logs all the sites I find. The wireless card has a plug on the side for the antenna, which means I can use it for low signal strength places. Old serial GPS that you can find on eBay for about $20. Network card and antenna $50 on eBay. GPS mount serves dual purpose, keeping hands warm when not in use. Marge protects me and my car.

I still like the food strainer amplifier. Cool!
