Yeah, I tried it, but to a PS user, the interface is still really...um non-user friendly. Though it has the capability of being close to PS, there's something about it that just doesn't come up to PS; not sure what it is, but somehow when I use it, it feels wrong - can't get some of the functions to work properly, and even with a proper setup can't get a lot of PS filters to work in it either.

It's probably not a good thing for beginners to try - it would frustrate them, but for anybody whose familiar with editing programs but doesn't want to buy one (like PS at $600-700 CDN) The gimp is worth a look.

I've been trialing this software - pretty darn awesome for 25Euros - it's obviously missing some functionality of PS - one of the things I miss most is the ability to create or run actions - the other is the text layer - I'd like to see it work a lot better with more control, though it's not bad. I also don't like the tool tips for the tools - the clone stamp is just cross hairs, and I prefer a circle; the blur tool is a teardrop and it's really hard to tell just where you are going with it, but I find the quality of cloning almost better than PS and the eraser is extremely good too.

(the Photofiltre Studio one - has layers and uses 8bf filters, so most of what works plug-in wise for PS works for this one.)

The user interface is quite similar to PS so it's easy to use if you've used PS. and the 25Euros gets you free upgrades too.

The standard version (Photofiltre) doesn't have layers capability or use of 8bf filters, but the standard one is free, and very functional, and comes with it's own handy plugins.

Yeah I know what you mean about gimp, You can sometimes tell it's not quite up to scratch, Allmost like its not quite finished.

One thing that that is really handy to non photoshop owners is that it can process photoshop plugins.

Photofiltre is not one ive tried, 25euros is not much when you compare to the price of PS. Another one alot of people seem to like is paint shop pro, PSP also allways vectors which is quite handy sometimes..

I have PSP 7, and used it initially. It's not bad, though I've no idea how much improvement has been made in the newer versions. One thing I wasn't too thrilled about in PSP 7 was that the colour profiling didn't seem as good as PS so the images didn't look the same as in PSP.

I found it difficult to process an image's colour correctly in PSP7, though it was fine for illustrations, the photo colour seemed sort of limp. I've seen quite a few images processed in the newer versions of PSP on various sites, and the colours seem much better, so I'd guess that would be an improvement over PSP7.

I still have CS...never got CS2 yet, it's not really as large a jump as from 7.0 to CS - I'll wait until the next one rolls out.
