Default Photoshop Tutorial: The Dodge Tool for Isolations Over White

YouTube - Photoshop Tutorial: The Dodge Tool for Isolations Over White

Here is another tutorial I just whipped up about how you can quickly and easily clean up your photos shot over white or light gray by using the dodge tool in Adobe Photoshop. This allows you to avoid having to make a selection or using masking. Some people prefer creating a levels layer, but this is a slightly different method.

I could have gone a lot faster. Maybe I went slow with the tool because I was yapping so much.

Todd that's brilliant. I just cleaned up a shot of a bonsai tree in 40 minutes. I'd not bothered to do it as a similar one had previously taken me half a day!

You're a star.

However I think I might have found an even faster way.

If you read the last few paragraphs of this tutorial you'll see that you can in fact reduce the process down to a few seconds using Xara Xtreme. Seems to work as well, although it might involve a little cleaning up of stray bits and pieces in PS afterwards.

You can get the trial version of Xara Xtreme here, or if you might possibly like to show your appreciation to me for changing your life someday my affiliate link is here (either way it's fully functional and free for 30 days).

Here's a tip that might also save you money too! If you don't output for print and all you want to do is edit photo's or produce web graphics you probably don't really need the Pro version, not that it matters for trial purposes but if you subsequently buy it $249 is a big jump over $89!

JK

While I like Xara Xtreme, I'm still using 3.2, this same thing can be done with Levels in either Photoshop, Elements or I suppose Paint Shop Pro, one doesn' t need Xara's Photo Tools. Now if Xara could export EPS files meeting agency requirements
