Default light tent

Ok ,not in the right section, sorry, but everyone looks here so....

Do you guys use a light tent for your objects ? I've started to think about trying a few ideas away from my usual stuff, and seeing as the weather is crap in the uk this could pass the time more creatively

I've looked around and you can make your own i guess, but by the time you've gone and bought all the stuff and spent the time making it it seems to me easier, and cheaper in the long run to buy one. They are selling on ebay pretty cheap, ?35 or less for an 80cm.

Any advice would be much appreciated,i know you won't let me down

Hi Tyke,

I have a small light tent i bought off ebay - and i mean small its about 45cm by 45 cm.. Its great for very small objects.
I have also have two 1k wide spectrum growing lamps that double very well for lighting. I have heard that several smaller lights may do a better job.

In Hindsight I would probably have bought a larger tent with lights in a kit. ( these are available very cheap on ebay too)

Just make sure you find out what size the tent is before you buy it!

Cheers

Doug

I don't really use one right now, I have my lights hooded so they act as a set of softbox lights.

This was posted in the forums on SS - kind of cool:

I just bust out a big piece of white bristol board, and start snapping - the lighting in my room is really crappy though. Thanks for that link Gracey, that's a neat little setup!

Well,i had already made a bid when i posted this on spec.

I won,i was the only bidder It's 80cm, have a look here and tell me what you think .

I can't really use daylight supe,it's crap in this country most of the time  Ilike the fact that it folds up out of the way,i'm pretty tight for room atm.

And Gracey, that link made me smile. It was what i looked at just before i made the bid  I think i got a bargain at ?25 inc postage .

I could do with some advice for lighting though. I have read that anglepoise type lamps (if you remember them) work well with this type of set up. Maybe three of them to move around to suit ?

Thanks all for the feedback

Looks a lot like the EZ cube - what I'm after - but they have info on lighting them on their site also, so this might help.

It's just a ez cube copy basically isn't it Gracey ? I like the idea.

I have ordered a couple of daylight flourescents, and i'm off to ikea to get a couple of cheap desktop lights tomorrow,we'll see how we go with that lot.

How did the light tent work out?

I know I'm bringing a 1 year old topic back from the dead.

My home made, light tent (small) has reached phase three. I'm just about ready to make a web page of how I did the project, in steps, including my first photo using it. Today I bought lamps at a resale shop. Way over budget, $4.99 each, but I fell in love when I saw a matched pair.

That just tripled the cost, bringing the total up to about $15 in parts.

I'll probably need to purchase the backing card stock, but I'm still hunting for something "white", flexible and free. Old pillow cases are too thin and show through too much of the desktop.

Details to follow, when I can get some more time off and create the web page.

Further to the posts above, if you do a search on eBay for "light tent" you'll find dozens of them for as little as £7 GBP ($14 US). I bought an 80cm one a couple of months back and they are absolutely fine.
