Default Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop

Okay, so I go and order my first laptop about a week ago. I've been buying stuff from Dell for years...

Shipping Method: 3-5 Business Days
Est. Ship Date: 1/9/2008
Est. Delivery Date: 1/14/2008-1/16/2008
Carrier: Not Shipped
Tracking Number: Not Shipped

Are you kidding me? I am going to have to wait a month for this thing. Time for me to call customer service, I think. Would you guys wait for a month just for a computer? This is crazy. I can see maybe 1 or 2 weeks...but come ON! Maybe it's delayed for parts or the holiday season.

They said the lcd's are on backorder because of the demand for the holidays....figures. I just hope another better deal doesn't come along before I get mine. They said they would expedite it as soon as it was built. UGH

Here is another story about Dell, if you are interested.

I bought a brand new Dell notebook exactly three years ago. Within a few months, the power jack plug was loose so it lost power whenever I moved the notebook. As a result, the battery died quickly.

Then the connection between LCD and mother board was not working. I sent it back to Dell for repair, they only repaired the LCD and didn't repair the power jack. I needed to use the notebook so I didn't send it in for repair until the warranty expired.

In the second year, the fan was broken, and the LCD went completely black when I turned it on. Because it was out of warranty, I took it to a store. The store charged me $90 and said it could not repair it.

Finally I paid a competent technician to get it repaired.

Then the CD-Rom could not read any data.

A few days before Christmas this year, the notebook made a lot of noise, then I could not turn it on again. The technician told me, the hard drive was completely dead, and the laser head of the CD is broken. He is trying to retrieve the data in the old hard drive, but I still don't know if the data, including my photos, can be recovered.

I haven't uploaded any photos in the last week.

I have had a few computers, none has had any hardware problems.

Do you think I will buy from Dell again?

Happy New Year!

Wow, that sounds like a nightmare. Sometimes you just get a lemon. I'm on my third Canon Powershot a610 - had to send it back twice. I've always had great experiences with Dell PC's, and I've bought 10-20 through the last 5 years or so (most for the places I've worked at, I own one of my own.)
