Default Possible FAQ message?

Can someone explain what all the letters mean that most people toss out around here?

For example:

How does RM work vs RF?

How much does an EL usually net at various sites?

Can someone be Micro and Macro with the same images?

Does anyone have the decoder ring for some of the others? :wink:

Abbreviation List Alphabetical

BSP (or BS) = BigStockPhoto
CR = Crestock
CS = CanStock
FP = Featurepics
FT = Fotolia
IS = Istock
123RF = 123 Royalty Free
PM = Panther Media
SS = Shutter Stock
SXP (or SX) = StockXpert
VM = Veer Marketplace

-=-

(closed)

LO = Lucky Oliver
SV = Snap Village

-=-

The list is incomplete but covers relevant sites.

Default Royalty Free Editorial

Definition:
'Royalty Free, Editorial' refers to newsworthy, personal and educational publications, digital and video work products, etc. that do not generate income or are not used to promote the generation of income.

Some examples of 'Royalty Free, Editorial':
Newsworthy publications, academic curricula, research papers, personal/educational publications, educational video, personal/educational websites that do not charge for access, software that has a limited distribution, or is educational in nature etc.

* The Licensee may use the Image for his/her own projects for an unlimited time.

I've updated the abbreviation list a little bit - correct me if I'm wrong about any of them, anyone...

You might find this useful - there is a listing of the bigger micro sites with links to their licensing for standard or EL, etc.

Thanks for the link. Most Micro Sites themselves that have detailed information on what they want and sizes Etc. So I followed from your suggestion.

I was trying to understand all the letters that people use here to abbreviate site names and Micro related terms.

Probably not. Most of the trad sites don't want the same things you've got on the micros - hard to sell them that way - most of the 'old' firms sell a license for RM images.

Better to stick with different images for each type of site.

Rights managed images generally mean you get more...a lot more, but usually when the image is licensed it might be licensed for a period of time and during that period of time no one else can buy it. That means you get one sale for it, but sales can range up into hundreds of dollars for one image. When the license is finished, the image may be sold again - it really depends on the license, and each license is often negotiated, so you may not know what the final price or licensing is until the negotiation (usually done by the site) is complete and they have an offer.

Royalty free, means the same image can be sold over and over again and the licenses remain the same for each sale, unless of course it's an EL sale, or the site decides to change them.

This is good reading!

Does anyone have a simple list of only the sites that will accept "editorial" photos?

Anyone have a simple list of sites that are currently accepting video?

SS and FeaturePics are the only two micros that I know of. And I believe Alamy does, too.

What do you put in the reviewers notes when you submit editorial to SS? I got some new ones from yesterday that are quite newsworthy to the construction industry here in UK.
