I don't think it's a good idea to politicize the note, because it's still an important day for Italian-Americans. If we add something about Native Americans and their protest, we risk offending European Italians and Italian-Americans. The calendar is only meant to inform folks why there might be a drop in sales on a particular date, and the day is still recognized by the Federal Government by the name of "Columbus Day."
What I would be willing to do is add "American Indian Heritage Day" and "Native American Day," because some states recognize those instead of Columbus Day. Fair enough?
